A new course for Climate Resilience - Climate Smart Agribusiness: Essentials

Climate resilience, E-Learning

As the world grapples with the impacts of a deepening climate crisis, agribusinesses stand at the frontline, facing unprecedented challenges. From more unpredictable weather patterns and intense droughts to floods and rising temperatures, the effects of climate change are reshaping the very foundation of agribusiness value chains. These impacts threaten food security and challenge agribusiness practices from production over processing to marketing across the globe. For agribusinesses, adapting to these changes is no longer optional while contributing to mitigating climate change, where possible, it is essential for long-term survival and success.

The Agri-Business Facility for Africa (ABF) is excited to launch a new course 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬, the first of a three-part series on climate-smart agribusiness on the Agribusiness e-Academy. The course is designed to help owners and staff of agribusinesses, extension officers, teachers, (master) trainers, ministry staff and anyone interested in creating climate resilience agribusiness owners and staff, and agriculture professionals understand the complex relationship between climate change and agribusiness. This course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and tools they need to understand climate change and its strong interlinkages with agribusiness, and to respond effectively to these challenges. By integrating climate smart practices into their operations, agribusinesses can not only mitigate the effects of climate change but also build resilience for the future.

In just 3 to 3.5 hours, split across two engaging sessions, learners will explore the fundamentals of the climate system, delve into the causes of climate change, and examine its current and potential future impacts on agriculture, food security, and agribusiness.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will have a comprehensive understanding of the following key areas:

  • Understand climate change, its causes, and impacts
  • Understand how climate change and agribusiness impact each other
  • Get an overview of climate smart agribusinesses practices and strategies

In early 2025, two additional courses, Climate Smart Agribusiness: Adaptation and Climate Smart Agribusiness: Mitigation, will be available to deep dive these topics.

We encourage you to enrol in this course and take the first step toward building climate-resilient agribusiness.

The course is currently available in English.
